Never back down
Nikolina Constantinova Dobreva (A.K.A. Nina Dobrev) was born in Sulfia, Bulgaria on January 9, 1989. At the age of two, her family took her to Toronto, Canada where she grew up. Nina, at a young age became very interested in the arts, having had grown up in a big town and influenced by the people around her. She really enjoyed dance and ballet, which eventually grew into a love for Gymnastics. Soon she found herself taking on the Canadian Gymnastics Team in Toronto called the Aesthetic Group Gymnastics. Practicing 5 days a week and 3-4 hours a day, she found herself having no free time and her body couldn't handle the sport in that intense of a way, so she focused more on her studies. Nina pushed herself to get good grades, meanwhile still playing sports and other activities. Then around eleventh or twelfth grade she enrolled into a new school. Dean Armstrong Acting School and soon after that the Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts. There, she learned more about her love for dance and acting.
During her last year of school she applied for a teen nick series, they told her she got it during her graduate year. She was really excited about it. Playing the role as Mia Jones, she joined the cast and crew of Degrassi (TeenNick). Dobrev had a reoccurring role in season six, seven, eight, and nine where she eventually had to quit when she joined the cast of the Vampire Diaries (CW30), which she is still currently screening now.

In one of Nina's TV series, she plays Katerina Patrova aka Katherine Pierce. I think that role was the main reason I chose to represent her as a tiger. She's strong, powerful, beautiful, and sometimes a little scary. That goes, not only for her character on the show, but her overall personality in real life. She's grown up to do great things and she'll grow to do even greater.

Q and A
~What was it like to become a competitive gymnast?
“It was a really awesome experience. It was a lot of hard work, but traveling and competing was really, really fun! I started when I was 9, and by the time I got older, I was traveling to Bulgaria and Denmark with Team Canada, training five days a week for three to four hours a day. I had multiple injuries, a dislocated shoulder, cuts, and bruises, and I definitely have dancer's feet from ballet and gymnastics. My feet are not the most attractive--they're probably my least favorite thing on my body,”
~If you weren't acting what do you think you'd be doing?
“I've considered opening a yoga studio I really think that I will one day. But there's a lot that goes into it, and I'd want it to be the most amazing yoga studio ever. I'd put a vegan/organic bakery on the side and have a coffee shop and a massage center too. I have big, big plans. It's just a matter of when I can do it!”
~If you could give your high school-self any advice, what would it be?
"Looking back on high school, I just remember specific scenarios and thinking, wow, that was such a big deal at the time, but right now it feels like it never even happened. So I guess if I can give any advice, I would just say that everything will pass, and it'll feel like it was a big deal over nothing. Life goes on and then you change and other things happen, and everything feels like it's so much worse afterwards. It'll always get better."

Nina's interview clips show, not only what Nina's like off camera, but shows that she's pretty similar to her characters on the show. She's working and not afraid to have fun with it. I admire that about her.
