Walt Disney was born December 5, 1901 in the Hermosa section of Chicago, Illinois. Walt was one of five children. However, he grew up mainly in Marceline, Missouri where he found his love for art and business. He attended Mckinley High School in Chicago were he spent the primary amount of his time being the cartoonist for the school paper.
Walt Disney was a true patriot his whole life. At the age of sixteen he decided to join the army but was turned back because he was underage. However, he didn't let this stop him. Walt joined the Red Cross and drove an ambulance in France for a year during World War I. Once he returned from the war Walt moved to Kansas City to pursue a career as a newspaper artist. He then created his own company caled Laugh-O-Gram with his partner Fred Harman. Eventually the company became bankrupt.
Walt Disney wanted a new start which led him to move to Hollywood, California with his brother Roy and business partner Ub Iwerks. There they created Disney Brothers' Studio. Their first character created was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. A few short years later, Disney found out that his distributor Margaret Winkler stole the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Disney, as frustrated as ever, immediately created his character that shot him into success, Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse first appeared in the short film Steamboat Willie.

Steamboat Willie was originally aired in 1928 as a short story directed by both Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. It became an instant sensation. It is considered to be the debut of Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend Minnie. Walt Disney himself was the voice of Mickey.
Walt Disney created his his television show called the Silly Symphonies which included Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto. In 1933 The Three little Pigs hit the big screen and became a theme for the country during the beginning of the Great Depression. Disney created his first full-length animated film in on December 21, 1937 which was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film generated an astonishing 1.5 million dollars in spite of the Great Depression and won eight oscars.
Walt Disney opened his seventeen million dollar Disneyland theme park in 1955. Within one year the park increased its investment tenfold. Disneyland became so popular it received tourists from all the corners of the world. Disney died on December 15, 1966 in Burbank, California. However, his last dying wish was to create Disney World in Orlando, Florida. He did not live to see its completion but his brother Roy lived to see that it was completed. Walt Disney was an extraordinary man who changed everyone on how they see the world today. He was truly able to live his life according to his famous song "When You Wish Upon a Star".
