Miyamoto is shown here holding the Master Sword and Hylian Shield from the popular series The Legend of Zelda. This game series is one that he created and has worked on for over 25 years. This picture shows his lighthearted personality and how even though he has a lot of responsibility in his job, he still manages to enjoy small moments. As one of Nintendo’s advanced creators he holds a lot of responsibility. He has a lot of control over different pieces of the company and that is an incredibly stressful position for him to be in. He has never let that stop him, and maintains a positive attitude trying to do all that he can in order to influence the company for the better to accomplish his goal of creating new experiences.
This is the Japanese symbol for the word “unique” and this quote helps elaborate on that idea:
“I wanted to make something very unique, something very different.”
-Shigeru Miyamoto
This quote by Miyamoto describes his motivation very well. The games that he makes, the systems that he uses, and really everything he does are means trying to reach an ends. He wants to create new experiences and make something unique. He wants to provide entertainment to others in a way that has never happened before. His primary motivation in his career was to create and facilitate new experiences. A good example of this is in the sheer variety of games that he has worked on. Mario with its side-scrolling platforming, the Legend of Zelda with its puzzles and adventure, Donkey Kong with its intricate levels trying, and so many more. Each game provides a new experience that so many people are able to enjoy. No game is quite like the previous one, and Miyamoto has used his influence to make that happen.
